The MySphere is certainly a derivative of the original K1000, and was developed with the involvement of some of the original engineers. While it follows a very similar underlying principle, it also introduced a number of changes to both the drivers and the overall headset design in an effort to advance certain aspects of performance.
Our goal with the K1K is somewhat different. We want to remain more faithful to the original K1000, both in its physical design and its overall tuning philosophy. There will inevitably be some changes, as well as opportunities to make meaningful improvements, and we don’t want to overlook those simply for the sake of replication. We are also involving members of the original K1000 development team and incorporating their input to help ensure the best possible outcome.
As for the RAAL SR1a, aside from sharing an open-baffle approach, I don’t really see it as an attempt to replace or recreate the K1000. Its operating principle, presentation, and overall sound are quite different. It’s certainly a unique product in its own right, but distinctly different from what we’re trying to achieve with the K1K.
