The Preonic Rev 4 is the newest evolution of Jack Humbert's iconic ortholinear keyboard design. Taking the original Planck concept and giving it a bit more breathing room, the Preonic adds a dedicated number row while preserving the compact, grid-based layout that made the original a favorite. The kit combines a CNC-machined case with a ground-up PCB redesign featuring per-key RGB lighting, integrated underglow, expanded encoder support, an RP2040 microcontroller, and full QMK compatibility.

Is the screw position changed from the v3? I’d love to be able to swap it into the case for my current Preonic.

Any chance the keycaps will be available for standalone purchase?

I saw them talking about this a few days ago, but it must not have made its way back here. Sorry about that.

Jack said, “Yeah the main PCB is compatible with previous case versions, but the RGB board won’t be”

The RGB board being the translucent/frosted layer for the diffuse edge lighting I believe.

That’s awesome. Is there an ETA on this project? Or will we have to wait till the Holiday season?

Pretty sure they’re just working on final details so it should be quite soon.

Would be great to buy this keyboard and also with the keycaps that are used in the pictures! Love the white/grey with some color accents

The keycaps will be included in the base kit :+1:

And for those who don’t want/need keycaps there will also be the option for a bare bones kit without them.

awesome! I’ll be coming from another Preonic so I’m good on keycaps for now. will there be switch options or a switchless barebones kit? thanks!

At this time I believe the plan is to have:

  • Barebones (just case + pcb)
  • Add just keycaps
  • Add just switches
  • Or add both

I’m not 100% if the switch types are finalized, but there should be a couple options at launch

Hopefully the sample will show up for final approval then it can go live in the next few days and we’ll know for sure, but hit me with whatever questions and I’ll try to hunt em down

Last I saw, Gateron KS-3 Linears and TTC Silent Bluish White V2 Tactiles were the current choices for switch options. Could still change, but one of them even has “silent” in the name so that’s lucky

So the price will start from $150. Hopefully there is an option to buy barebones version too. :smiley:

Can we get both sets of key caps or just the key caps?

I would also like to order both the qwerty and colemak keycaps, is that possible?

And are there pictures of the silver case?

Sorry for the delay. People scattered to the winds right now, but working on getting some pics of the silver case and will talk to the team about stand alone keycap options :+1:

No (w)hurries, no shipments yet this month :slight_smile: I will wait until I see the updates passing by. Probably going for yellow but still want to see the silver first to be sure. And can’t decide between the two keycaps so that’s why both are better. Thanks!
