Having added Sparkos Opamps and a synapse max USB isolator, I’d like to improve the quality of the R2R dac by replacing the supplied SM PSU with a Linear PSU. So I have questions!

  1. Does the 12V rail feed the analog stages directly, or does the Druid generate its internal rails with a DC-DC converter?

  2. What is the barrel connector size : outer diameter, inner diameter, and centre-pin polarity?

  3. What is the measured current draw at idle and during playback?

  4. What is the acceptable input voltage range and tolerance

    I have read rumors of an LPS coming from Apos (I own the Druid, Merlin and the Gremlin) so if there is a timeline I am sure there are plenty who would love an update! If there is a recommendation you could make alternatively, for immediate purchase, Id be most grateful!

Sorry, not sure how I missed this one. Let me see if I can get you some answers.

  1. Power supply rail: DC‑DC generated

  2. DC Barrel connector: 5.5 mm × 2.1 mm

  3. Current draw:
    ‑ Idle: approx. 160 mA @12V
    ‑ During playback: approx. 165 mA @12V

  4. Acceptable input voltage range: 11.4‑12.6 V DC

Regarding the power supply we are working on, there is a community project we are currently testing which was brought to us at Bay Area HiFiCon. The test are still going on so I cannot say anything for certain about the launch.
