Launch this already I can’t wait

Going through some more prototyping rounds. Just want to get the build perfect  - we love your exuberance

Any more news about the headphone or the energizer combo?

The headphone is expected to launch around June. Jeff is going through some more iterations.

The Energizer combo, by which I am assuming you mean the Hydra Integrated Amp, will have a new prototype with a new chassis in the next two weeks. We are expecting a similar launch timeline on the Hydra as the SJY Electrostats.

June time! Where are the purchase links :face_with_monocle:

Haha, we are working on them. Jeff is still doing some aesthetic changes and doing more tests. It’s coming along with the Hydra amp . However, we also don’t want to rush it in if we are not fully done with our tests. We are as enthusiastic as you to get this out to everyone, but we do want to make sure things are done right and not rushed.

We’ll provide an update to the community once we have a more concrete timeline.

Ok, I’ve wanted to get a pair of electrostatic ear speakers for a while now, and these SJY ones look extremely tasty. But I live in the Bay Area, where dust, the mortal enemy of electrostats, is rampant. Since I know quite a few of the Apos crew live around here too, I’d like to ask the question, “Short of turning your listening location into a clean room and wearing a bunny suit, how do you ensure your ear speakers stay in good working order?”

This might make for a good blog post; I can’t be the only person that’s holding off on buying ear speakers for this reason.

I live in the dusty Sonoma county and have never had issues with electrostatic headphones. When not in use I typically drape a cloth over them to prevent dust from settling on the headphone itself. If I know I won’t be using them for a while I but them back in their original box or a headphone case.

Asked the team and Jeffrey was quick to respond so to add to what @thomas said:

Electrostatic drivers have semi-transparent dust screens on both sides, preventing dust from reaching the transducer. In normal home use, they shouldn’t require any more care than a typical pair of headphones.

Another good way to reduce dust attraction is to discharge the driver when it’s not in use. With little or no static charge present, the driver is much less likely to attract airborne dust.

This headphone was supposed to launch around June, its August now. Status update?

What is the minimum expected Vrms needed to run these?

Hi! The pre-order will launch on August 18. We are starting to make announcements and tease the launch. Both the SJY Argos and the Hydra Amp will launch on August 18.

Argos doesn’t have a strict minimum Vrms requirement. We’ve tested it with the STAX SRM-D10 II, which is rated at 200 Vrms maximum output. Around 200 Vrms is sufficient, while 300 Vrms or more will provide additional dynamic headroom.

Dumb question here. Can I assume that Argos works great with the Hydra Amp? I’m not familiar with e-stats specs.

Yes, they are awesome together.

Just wanted to confirm that the cable is detachable? Also wanted to ask what the decision was to depart from the typical ribbon cable as the design lowers capacitance in the cable which is typically useful for electrostats. I’m not super familiar with estats so I’m just genuinely curious

the description says the cable is attached so not detachable. Honestly I never needed to replace cables on my headphones.
