The Physical Media Corner

I was thinking about just doing a record discussion, but I feel like all physical media at this point is exciting enough to group together.

Show off your physical media collections, the daily mail delivery, or what releases you are excited about!

Do books count too? Currently working on trying to make a built in bookshelf, not quite half way there even.

Man. I’ve donated so much of my physical media over the years and moves. I think I only have old game discs these days. And if my mom didn’t lose it, a binder full of CD’s. I really need to get those back.

When I had the record store I heard so many older folks say “man, I wish I didn’t ditch my vinyl” and would smugly think to myself “yeah, that was dumb.” And here I am saying that about my CDs now while calling myself dumb.

lololol guess I know what that makes us…

Well, this should be obvious even without me giving away all my CDs haha.

So coincidentally, I did some rearranging to the kids room and needed to move the one collection of physical media I definitely own which is old video games. Rather than put up the old shelf though, I figured I’ll put them in the cabinet thing on my wall. Only downside is the usual issue with any row of tall rectangles where they all want to become dominoes.

So I designed some little slotted liner things to 3d print that I can put on the shelf first that will hold them up in place. The test one seems to work good so I guess I’ll print a couple more and see how it goes

This is a brilliant little hack. These should be sold everywhere…..DVD’s are still sold.

You could definitely make them more robust, but I was trying to make it with as little material as possible. The weight of the boxes seems to hold them in place pretty good because my wood shelves are old and beat up, but I imagine on real smooth laminated wood they would need something to help them stick in place

I still have a small collection of DVD-Audio discs. They can be played on any DVD player but I need to get a DVD-Audio player in order to play the special DVD-Audio layers which are lossless.

Gotta get on that Oppo replacement

Oppo was one of the last in the game. Denon was another brand making good multi disk players.
